Alastair Chapman
Chairman
After graduating in Rural Estate Management at London University, Alastair undertook a short service commission in the Royal Navy in 1970. Leaving the Service in 1974, he resumed a career as Land Agent and Auctioneer, first in Nottingham and then Holborn.
Since 1980, he has practised as a Chartered Surveyor (FRICS) in the commercial property market in the City of London. He is currently a Partner of Matthews & Goodman LLP in their City Office. He became a Wellington Trustee in 2012 and was appointed Chairman in July 2020.
Apart from his work and his other charity trustee roles, Alastair is a trained classical singer, with a rewarding parallel career on the concert and recital platform.
David Hogben BEM
Vice Chairman
David Hogben, the Vice Chairman, has a background in Telecommunications and played a key role in the privatisation of the UK Telecoms industry, subsequently advising Governments and Telcos internationally.
A keen supporter of outdoor learning and contextual academics, David was awarded the BEM for service to the community for his work in making sailing opportunities available to all. He lives at Herne Bay in the far reaches of the Thames Estuary.
Jenny Moseley
Board Lead Marketing & Development and Deputy Chairman of Friends
Jenny Moseley was Assistant Vice President of the National Geographic Society with responsibility for marketing the Society’s products, including National Geographic Magazine, across Europe.
She is also an experienced fundraiser, working for a number of national charities as a direct marketing consultant. She has been Chairman of the Direct Marketing Association UK and a Vice President of the Federation of European Direct and Digital Marketing.
Jenny’s current career is as Director of Jenny Moseley Marketing.
Annie Todd
Board Lead Education
Annie has been an Educator for over 40 years, teaching in both British and International schools, and working as an Education Officer at Heritage sites throughout England, including the Tower of London.
She retired as Head of Education at English Heritage in January 2006. As a Consultant, Annie has been involved in several Heritage Lottery funded projects and has acted as the Education Consultant and as a session Facilitator on the WELLINGTON for some years, being a leading member on the Trust’s Education Committee.
Annie has been involved as a member of the Steering groups in several exhibitions aboard the WELLINGTON, including Convoy, Hospital Ships and Troop
Cllr Munsur Ali CC
Board Lead Media
Munsur Ali is a film producer and a Council Member of the City of London Corporation. He currently serves as a board member for the Barbican Centre, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and City Police Authority Board.
Since graduating with honours in 2004 in BA Film and Broadcast productions, Munsur has produced numerous content from promos to feature films. He is the founder of the ‘Mela in the City,’ ‘The Limelight Film Awards’ and ‘The London Bengali Film Festival.’
He is currently working on a slate of feature films and he regularly appears on TV, Radio and print as a speaker or discussing issues from his personal and professional background.
Nick Dowden
Honorary Marine Consultant
Nick is a master mariner and freeman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners with over 25 years’ experience in the industry. He has a passion for historic vessels and their preservation and is a keen sailor of tall ships and Thames barges.
Nick is devoted to improving safety in the maritime industry and is currently head of Investigations at the BMA, charged with conducting no-blame investigations into marine casualties.
Louisa Burton
Board Lead Finance
Louisa is an ICAEW qualified chartered accountant: her background is in professional practice having qualified with a medium-sized firm of accountants before joining Ernst and Young as an auditor and later going on to teach accountancy. Louisa has a keen interest in charity finance and is currently studying a PhD in this area.
Michael Bateman
Board Lead IT & Digital Technology
Michael brings leadership of acquisitive and organic growth to organisations, across dispersed teams and geographies. As well as his time in technology and digital service providers, Michael has previously worked at Deloitte and within a range of tech businesses. He was a founding member of the PitPat team, a start-up pet activity and data business, where he is now a board advisor.
As a Civil Servant, he was a founding member of the UK G-Cloud team within HMG Cabinet Office; on leaving government he went on to hold advisory council positions with Microsoft and TechUK. Outside of work Michael has been a Special Constable in the Met Police and serves as Reservist in the British Army.
Richard Murray
Board Lead Legal
After graduating from the London School of Economics and the University of Cape Town, Richard joined a maritime security company based aboard Wellington, and worked on several high-risk offshore projects in the Persian Gulf.
On returning to the UK, he qualified as a solicitor and currently advises on shipping and international trade law at Campbell Johnston Clark (CJC). Richard specialises in shipbuilding, marine insurance and admiralty litigation; and has acted for many of the City's leading participants in shipping. He is a Supporting Member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association.
Away from his desk, Richard has served on operational tours with the British Army, and is a keen boxer, gardener and traveller.
Sheena Thomson
Board Lead – PR and Communications
Sheena Thomson is a former RN Media Operations Officer where she held appointments at HMNB Clyde, NATO Sarajevo as the Stabilisation Force Spokesperson, and Fleet Media Operations Officer at Northwood. Since leaving the RN, she has worked in the corporate and government communications sector, including seven years in the Middle East advising the governments of Egypt, Abu Dhabi and Oman.
Sheena now runs her own consultancy specialising in strategic, risk and crisis communications. Sheena is a Founding CIPR Chartered PR Practitioner, MCIPR, PROSCI Change Management Practitioner, Board member for the International Association for Risk and Crisis Communications and Naval representative on the Pen & Sword Club Executive Committee.
Constructor Captain Rod Pudduck OBE, FRINA, CEng, RCNC
Honorary Naval Architect
Rod Pudduck served 39 years in the Ministry of Defence and in the Royal Navy in the design, construction and maintenance of ships and submarines. As the Fleet Naval Constructor during the Falklands war, he advised on damage control and repair. As Principal Naval Overseer Birkenhead, whilst building frigates and submarines, he was also responsible for the material upkeep of HMS Caroline at Belfast.
Subsequently Chief Engineer at Atkins then with Houlder Ltd. He was a member of the Battle of the Atlantic Memorial project that fought for 12 years to return HMS Whimbrel from Egypt to the United Kingdom. A Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and was Chairman of the Safety Committee for 10 years. He now works part time as a defence consultant for NATO. He has been Wellington’s Honorary Naval Architect since 2008.
Professor Dominic Tweddle FSA FSA Scot

Dominic’s career began at the York Archaeological Trust in 1979, where he was responsible for the research, publication and public engagement programmes and played a major role in developing Jorvik.
In 1995 Dominic purchased the Trust’s design and multimedia business which in 2000 he merged with another company, which owned and operated visitor attractions. He became CEO of the merged group. By the time Dominic left, the business owned five modern visitor attractions and had developed over 200 cultural heritage projects. He was then, in 2009, appointed as Director General to create a National Museum of the Royal Navy which now, fifteen years later, has seven museum sites and owns eight major warships, including HMS Victory. The museum currently attracts over 700 000 visitors yearly.
Dominic retired as Director General of the museum at the end of November 2023.
Commodore Angus Menzies MNI RN

Being born, bred and educated in Aberdeen; preceded 36 years’ service in the Royal Navy as a Logistics Specialist serving around the globe in every surface ship type and nuclear-powered attack submarines.
Retirement in 2006 flowed into a very enjoyable period as Finance Director and Group Company Secretary to the Chartered Institute of Linguists and in 2009, became the Chief Executive of the WELLINGTON Trust a post which brought with it, the job of Clerk to the Honourable Company of Master Mariners.
After retiring in 2020 he took on the role as an Ambassador for the WELLINGTON Trust.
Captain Simon Quail B.Ed M.A.
Ambassador
Simon Quail joined the Merchant Navy in 1966, serving as a Deck Apprentice with Elder Dempster Lines. He worked in a variety of trades crossing many oceans before leaving the sea in 1988 to resume his career in education until retirement as a Deputy Headmaster in 2009.
He is a Friend of the Wellington and serves on the Trust Education Committee, developing the Schools’ Programme. He delivers the Wheelhouse Augmented Reality Computer Simulation to school children and visitors. Dr Terry Lilley RD* MNI

Terry joined the British India Line cadet ship CHINDWARA in 1950 which started 10 years in the Merchant Navy and 34 years in the Royal Naval Reserve. He qualified as a Master Mariner in 1960 but potential sight problems started a 31 year career in Lloyds Bank. His appointment to HMS PRESIDENT was transferred to HMS WILDFIRE, the Headquarters Unit serving Flag Officer Medway. In 1980 he was appointed Commanding Officer of the Unit.
Retirement activities include IIMS, paddle steamers, study at the University of Greenwich, induction as a Freeman, HCMM and supporting The Wellington Trust.
Glyn Evans
Ambassador and Chairman of Friends
Following a career as a marine cargo insurance underwriter working in Liverpool, Manchester, Reading, London, Redhill, Bristol and Birmingham, Glyn settled with his wife in the Cotswolds where he worked for an estate agent, art gallery owner, graphic design company and as an itinerant flat-pack furniture assembler. Time was then spent in writing which resulted in the publication of three books, “The Maritime Art of Kenneth D Shoesmith,” “The Dazzle-Painted Ships of World War I” and “CARGOES – A Celebration of the Sea.” His latest book, “Operation Title- Sink the Tirpitz,” is awaiting publication.
Glyn is a Friend of the Wellington and for some years acted as co-ordinator for the onboard Heritage Lectures. He also hosted meetings onboard Wellington for members of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Wapping Group of Artists.
Glyn is a member of the Liverpool Maritime Society and the Seven Seas Club, writing articles for their publications and co-writing the Centenary Book for the Seven Seas Club. He has lectured on various maritime subjects in London, Southampton, Liverpool, Felixstowe and Jersey, the Royal Ulster Yacht Club and the Ulster Museum, Belfast.
In addition to being an Ambassador to the Wellington Trust, Glyn has recently been appointed Chairman of the Friends of the Wellington. For some years he acted as co-ordinator for the onboard Heritage Lectures and hosted painting days onboard Wellington for members of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Wapping Group of Artists. Discussions are now ongoing with both the RSMA and the WGA for future visits and exhibitions.
