Wellington Heritage Evening
19 October 2009
The Friends of the Wellington are commencing their programme of maritime heritage evenings on board on Monday 19th October. The aim of these evenings is to offer both entertainment and more serious study of our national maritime heritage connected to sea trade and its protection, particularly since Victorian times. Those familiar with the NADFAS organisation will find a similar theme.
These events are particularly aimed at Friends, members of the HCMM, Sea Vision partners, members of the Joint Informal Meetings, and members of the London SHIPs Group. Friends and Members are warmly invited to invite their own guests who have an interest in the past glories of our Merchant Navy and of convoys.
On this inaugural evening, Captain Professor David Smith and John Johnson-Allen will read extracts from some of the interviews they have carried out while researching for their forthcoming book, The Wellington Chronicles (or A View from the Bridge). These extracts will range from the funny to the serious and from Apprentices adventures to Master’s escapades, all recorded from Members of the Honourable Company over their many years of service at sea.
The evening will proceed as follows:
1830 Wardroom Bar open
1900-1935 First half of talk in the Court Room
1935-2020 Hot pot supper with wine in the Model Room
2020-2100 Part Two
2100 Wardroom Bar reopens.
The cost of this evening will be £25 per head, and £30 for guests.
