RNLI – A Short History of the RNLI on the River Thames RNLI – A Short History of the RNLI on the River Thames Our guest speaker is Kevin Maynard, Station Manager, RNLI Tower Station. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution was founded in 1824 and saves lives at sea and on the River Thames. The lecture will include how the Thames Stations came to be, how the service is funded, crewed and alerted when they are needed, the types of incidents the lifeboat gets called to and will include some video footage that has been recorded during rescues. Kevin will also cover what the RNLI does today and the aims for the future.
